Sheep to Sweater: A Fiber Art Field Trip to Toko Central in Kuta, Bali

Sheep to Sweater: A Fiber Art Field Trip to Toko Central in Kuta, Bali

Traveling has always been a huge source of inspiration for my creative work, especially when it comes to fiber, textiles, and design. And if you’ve followed The K4 Project for a while, you already know that one of my favorite things to do while traveling is seek out local yarn and craft stores.

This stop brings me back to Kuta, Bali, where I revisited one of my all-time favorite supply store: Toko Central.

I’ve actually been here before -years ago while sourcing materials for my former clothing brand, Knitty Kitty. Back then, my focus was production and trims. This time, I walked in as a knitter, crocheter, and fiber artist… and wow. It reminded me why this place is so special.

A Craft Store Like No Other

Toko Central is hands-down the largest and most comprehensive yarn, bead, and craft supply store in Bali. If you’re familiar with Michaels Craft Store in the U.S., imagine that but bigger, busier, and overflowing with materials that spark instant inspiration.

You’ll find:

  • Yarn in multiple weights and fibers
  • Beads, trims, and embellishments
  • Sewing and garment supplies
  • Tools for knitting, crochet, jewelry making, and more

Whether you’re a hobbyist looking for a fun field trip or a designer with a clothing brand, this store is an absolute dream.

Hobbyists vs. Designers: Why This Store Matters

If you’re traveling through Bali and love crafting, Toko Central is simply fun. You can wander the aisles, touch the yarn, discover new textures, and leave with souvenirs you’ll actually use.

But if you’re a designer or brand owner, this store is next-level. It’s an incredible place for:

  • Sampling new designs
  • Sourcing materials for small production runs
  • Exploring trims and embellishments
  • Getting inspired for your next collection

This is the kind of place where ideas happen.

My Yarn Haul & Current Project

During this visit, I picked up a bunch of #2 weight yarn that I’ll be using to sample a new project while I’m here in Bali. I love working on samples while traveling—it keeps my hands busy and my creativity flowing, especially in inspiring places like this.

I filmed a full walkthrough of the store and shared what I bought in the video below so you can experience it right along with me.

My Haul: over 40 balls of yarn, wires, beads, and crochet hook for $32.00!

Knit Travel, Kuta to Kuta

Ironically, the last yarn store I filmed for this series was in Kuta, Lombok, and now here I am again in Kuta, Bali, visiting the biggest supply store yet. I guess Kuta just has a way of pulling fiber artists in 😉

If you love combining travel with knitting, crochet, and creative exploration, this is exactly what Sheep to Sweater is all about.

Do you search for local yarn stores when you travel?
Are you a hobbyist, or do you design and produce your own work?

Let me know -I love hearing how others combine travel and fiber.
