It is December 2025 and I am on a surf trip, kind of, in Lombok, Indonesia. But really, half my luggage is filled with yarn and needles -lol. So, now that I am in Kuta, Lombok, I realize that the good surf is beyond my abilities and the beginner surf takes a lot more effort than I am willing to do. What I mean is that I like to find a wave that is decent for my level (I would say I am an intermediate level surfer who only rides a long board). To get to a wave in Lombok for my level, I need to drive a scooter about 20-30 minutes from Kuta (which is the main town to stay at), haggle the price for a not so great surfboard, and then paddle a half an hour or hire a boat to get to the break. Once I got to the line-up, I discovered it was nearly impossible for me to catch a wave simply because the surf schools get dibs on waves and the surf teachers take all the waves their beginner students miss, leaving very few waves to catch for people like me. I know, I know. Boo hoo.

But it is all good. I won't surf. Fine. The beaches are pretty and I can still knit and crochet here. And thank goodness I have my knitting needles and crochet hooks. I also stocked up on yarn before coming to this little island in Indonesia for fear there would be no yarn store. But happily and to my surprise, I found this little gem of a store on the outskirts of Kuta called Mia Mia Crochet.
Here is a video I made about this shop. I love finding yarn stores while I travel. I think it is important to spread the word to other crafters traveling.

Oh, and here is a crocheter I bumped into in Kuta, Lombok. Look what she made!

What project do you travel with? Do you go searching for local yarn stores when you are out of town?
