✨ This Week’s WIPs: Snowflakes, Sunbursts + Knitty Kitty Nostalgia

Hi friends! 👋 Lisa here from The K4 Project, and I’m back with a quick roundup of what’s been on my needles this week.
It’s been a week mixed with holiday leftovers (even before December), new skills learned, and a little nostalgia.

Even though my summer and fall were mostly about designing knit Christmas stockings, now that those patterns are wrapped up, I’ve started planning ahead for winter and spring designs creating swatches, sketches, and sample ideas for what’s next.

But of course, I just can’t stop making Christmas things… 🎄

❄️ Crochet Snowflake Ornament

This week I taught myself how to crochet a snowflake ornament and I’ll be honest, it took a few tries! I’ve got a few funny samples that didn’t quite turn out right, but they helped me understand how to crochet the final piece.

These little snowflakes are quick to make, perfect for gift toppers or hanging on your tree. I’ll be filming a step-by-step tutorial so you can make your own  so watch for it coming soon on my YouTube channel.

🌞 Sunburst Granny Squares

Another new skill this week -I learned how to make sunburst granny squares!
With just three colors, I created six different versions of the same pattern. My favorite one has a dark red center with a matching border -it feels so warm and festive.

I’m thinking of turning these into Christmas tree ornaments or maybe even a mini garland.

It’s amazing how a simple color change transforms the whole mood of a square!

💕 Knitty Kitty Nostalgia + New Nappy Design

I’ve also been feeling a little nostalgic for my former knitwear brand, Knitty Kitty, a clothing company featuring women’s knit underwear and bras. That old inspiration sparked something new!

This week, I started designing children’s patterns for spring, beginning with a knitted nappy diaper cover. I wanted something simple, sweet, and quick to make — this one can be knit in a day.

I also tried a few new techniques:
💗 The heart motif in the center uses the duplicate stitch instead of intarsia.
💗 Then I outlined it with a crochet chain stitch for a pop of texture.

I love how the sample it turned out and now I can't stop thinking of ideas just for the diaper cover patterns.

🧶 The Game of Wool

Lastly, I have to mention a show that’s got me inspired - The Game of Wool! It’s a UK knitting competition that celebrates our fiber community. I admire the contestants so much and they are doing a great job with the limited amount of time they are given to complete a task.
I haven’t been able to stream it in the U.S. yet, but I watched all the recap clips I could find. I heard using a VPN might let you stream it, so I’ll be testing that soon and reporting back!

💌 Wrapping Up

So that’s my week - full of new stitches, learning moments, and creative sparks!
