The traditional granny square is one of those classic crochet stitches that never goes out of style. It’s simple, versatile, and can be used to create everything from blankets and bags to clothing and home decor.
This granny square plant pot cozy started as a lesson for myself. I wanted to truly learn and understand the traditional granny square -how the stitches work, how the corners are formed, and how color changes affect the final look.
Instead of leaving my practice swatches unfinished, I turned them into something fun and useful.

By sewing together three granny squares, I created this whimsical plant pot cozy that dresses up any plant and instantly adds charm to a space. I experimented with solid color squares as well as two-color squares to practice changing colors within a square.
This project is:
- Beginner-friendly
- A great stash yarn project
- Quick to make
- Perfect as a housewarming or handmade gift
